How our guides are written and checked

By the Over 60s Singles editorial teamUpdated · 4 min read

In short

Over 60s Singles publishes practical guides for people dating over 60. Every external fact, such as a phone number, a law or a figure, is checked against the organisation it comes from, linked and dated. Nothing is invented: no members, stories or statistics. A page that can't yet be stood behind is held back rather than published.

Why this page exists

You should know how the guides are made so you can judge how far to trust them. Over 60s Singles is a dating site, and its guides sit alongside a paid membership.

That commercial side is not hidden. It shapes what we hold ourselves to: advice that works whichever site, church group or walking club you choose, and facts you can check for yourself.

Facts come from the source

Every phone number, helpline, law, figure, venue and group we mention is checked on the website of the organisation itself. A primary source is the body that runs the service or makes the rule, rather than a news story or another website repeating it.

Topic Where we check it
Reporting fraud Report Fraud, Police Scotland, and the national reporting services in the US, Canada and Australia
Laws, wills, marriage and benefits GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk and court judgments
Church teaching The church's own website or published guidance
Helplines and support The charity that runs the line, such as Age UK
Groups, classes and venues The group's or venue's own website, with the date we checked
Health NHS websites

Each page lists its sources at the end, with links. If we can't confirm something on a primary source, we leave it out rather than hedge it in. Where a page lists groups or venues, it says when they were checked, because times and venues change.

Facts about the membership

What we say about the membership comes from the member terms and the members area itself: what is free, what is paid, how renewal and cancellation work, and that profiles are shared with partner sites in the same network.

We don't describe features the members area does not have, and we don't claim profiles are "checked" when only photos are reviewed. Prices come from a single, maintained price list rather than being typed into articles, so a price on one page can't quietly contradict another. The key facts page and how it works are the reference points for these details.

What we will not publish

Some things never appear on this site, however helpful they might look:

  • Invented members, quotes, testimonials or success stories
  • Statistics without a named, linked source
  • Example profiles or messages that are not clearly labelled as examples
  • Claims about member numbers, matching or response times
  • Advice that should come from a doctor, solicitor or financial adviser, presented as if it were theirs
  • Names or details of other dating sites used to borrow their search traffic

Where a guide touches on law, health or money, it explains the general position, links to the official source, and tells you who to ask about your own circumstances.

Pages that wait

A held page is one that is written but not published, because it depends on something we can't yet confirm. That might be a feature in the members area or a review by a specialist organisation.

That is why, for example, our section for LGBT+ people over 60 is not yet live: it waits on confirmation that the members area matches people of the same sex.

How pages are written

Guides are researched and drafted by the Over 60s Singles editorial team, using AI writing tools for research and first drafts. Each draft is then checked against its sources, and against the rules above, before publication. Pages are not credited to named authors at present.

We write in British English for people in their sixties, seventies and eighties, as capable adults. No jargon without an explanation, and no "young at heart".

Dates and updates

Every page shows the date it was last updated. When we learn that a source has changed, such as a new helpline number or a renamed organisation, we update the page and its date.

Outside organisations

Mentioning a charity, church, group or venue does not mean it endorses Over 60s Singles or has any connection with it. We link to them because they are useful to people over 60.

How to report a mistake

If something on this website is wrong or out of date, we want to know. To report it:

  1. Open the help centre.
  2. Give the page address and the sentence that is wrong.
  3. If you can, include a link to the source that shows the correct information.

We correct factual errors promptly and change the page's updated date when we do. See how to get in touch for other questions, or read about Over 60s Singles.

Questions people ask

Who writes the guides on Over 60s Singles?

The guides are researched and written by the Over 60s Singles editorial team, with AI writing tools used for research and first drafts. Every page is then checked against its sources before it is published. Pages are not credited to named individuals at present.

Are the guides independent of the dating site?

No, and it would be wrong to pretend otherwise. The guides sit on a dating site with a paid membership. That is why each one sticks to checkable facts, links to its sources, and gives advice that applies whichever site, group or club you choose.

Can I trust the phone numbers and laws on this site?

Each one was checked on the organisation's own website, and the source is linked at the foot of the page. Numbers and rules do change, so look at the page's updated date, and if something looks out of date, tell us through the help centre.
