What is free, and what needs a membership?

Everything you need to decide whether the site is for you is free; talking to people is what you pay for. In the members area, the split looks like this:

Free Needs a paid membership
Creating an account and a profile Reading the messages you receive
Adding photos (each one is reviewed before it appears) Replying to messages
Browsing other members' profiles Read receipts and seeing who has viewed you
Receiving interest from other members Viewing photos full size

Free members also see adverts in the members area. That is enough to find out whether there are people you would like to talk to before you spend a penny. The how it works page walks through each step, and what to check before you join has a checklist for any dating site.

Which option should you choose?

Pick the shortest option if you only want to try messaging, and a longer one if you are already talking to people. Compare the cost per week in the table rather than the headline figure, and remember that every option renews.

  • Just curious: stay free and browse until you see profiles you'd like to write to.
  • Testing the water: the short trial or the shortest membership, with a renewal reminder in your diary.
  • Talking to a few people: a longer membership saves you renewing so often.

Optional extras

The extras are add-ons, not requirements. They are priced separately in the members area: boosts, priority messages, a 24-hour pass, a "reveal likes" option and an optional ID verification badge. None of them is needed to use the site. If you are unsure, start without them.

Renewal: the part to note

Every membership renews automatically at the end of its period, and keeps renewing until you cancel. That includes the short trial, which renews at the price shown in the table if you do nothing.

If you want a fixed period and no more, put a reminder in your diary a couple of days before the renewal date, then cancel under Settings > Billing.

Paying in US dollars from the UK

Prices are charged in US dollars, so a UK card payment is converted by your bank. Some banks add a non-sterling transaction fee; your bank can tell you what it charges.

Payments appear on card statements under the billing name shown at checkout. Make a note of it when you pay, so an unfamiliar line on your statement doesn't catch you out.

Cancelling, refunds and leaving

  • Stop renewal: Settings > Billing, then cancel.
  • Refunds: the member terms allow a pro-rata refund only when at least 40% of the membership period is unused. Ask through the help centre.
  • Delete your account: choose your avatar, then Settings > Delete Account.

If you can't sign in to cancel, the sign-in help page explains what to do. For anything else, see how to get in touch.

Spending wisely

A membership is the only thing you should ever pay for. Nobody you meet should ask you to pay for anything else: their travel, a phone, a customs fee or an investment. That is the shape of a romance scam, and the safety guide explains how to spot one and who to call.

Questions people ask

Is there a free trial?

Looking around is free for as long as you like: you can join, make a profile, add photos and browse without paying. There is also a low-cost short trial of messaging, shown in the price table. Like every membership, it renews automatically at the price shown unless you cancel before the renewal date in Settings > Billing.

Will I be charged in pounds?

No. Prices are shown and charged in US dollars. If you pay with a UK card, your bank converts the amount into pounds at its own rate and may add a non-sterling transaction fee. Your bank can tell you what it charges, so it is worth asking before you pay.

Can I get a refund?

The member terms allow a pro-rata refund only when at least 40% of the membership period is unused. If you think you qualify, ask through the help centre as soon as you can, giving the date you paid. Cancelling stops future renewals but does not by itself refund the current period.

Does cancelling delete my profile?

No. Cancelling under Settings > Billing stops your membership renewing; it is a separate step from leaving the site. To remove your profile, choose your avatar, then Settings > Delete Account. If you only want a break, cancelling the renewal may be all you need.

Do I need any of the optional extras?

No. Boosts, priority messages and the other extras are optional and priced separately in the members area. A membership on its own lets you read and reply to messages, which is what most people come for. If you are unsure, start without extras and decide later.
